How does the sun shadow study and analysis work?
To enable a accurate study, we develop a 3D model of the proposal and use GPS Co-ordinates and the suns path at specific times of the year to illustrate the cast of the shadows. Our dedicated software can then view the 3D model at any angle to specifically analyse the impact (if any) of the shadows and take imagery to be used in the sun shadow study.
How much does a 3D massing model cost?

How long does it take to build a sun shadow study model?
This depends on the level of information supplied to us. If you have a topographic survey or a Measured Building Survey, we can process the data from the drawings immediately. If not, we can alternatively gather data from Ordnance Survey mapping within 24 hours to begin building.

What is the difference between Right to Light and a Sun shadow study?
Right to light is a law where by the owner of the building with windows has a right to maintain a level of illumination. Proposing a new extension close to the neighbours boundary can have a significant impact on the Right to Light to their amenity space. Depending on the time of the year by producing a sun shadow study can determine whether or not there is a loss of light to the neighbouring property.
What is the 45 degree rule?
When designing any extension or a housing development, consideration must be taken to ensure there is no harm to the natural light of the neighbours amenity space. Two storey extensions and high fences are just a number of examples that can block natural light at certain times of the day.
